Yep, definitely if redirect is done correctly and bigger direct downloads not allowed by default, if server uses place-holders instead of giant monster files it takes less memory and has place for more.
So I don't need to mention a server repository having up to 2-5 GB of UMX files will take a few seconds to setup by using less than 10-20 MB. Redirect doesn't have too many optimization options at this point, but inside server, memory might go for more resources - a server usually does need resources...
As client which wants to connect faster, and not interested what server is sending, place-holders properly conformed can do a good job saving resources... I think ALL umx files going over 10 MB, taking more than 500+ ms time for loading them - even more if files are very fragmented, are going to be turned in small files with a fast load - during a tick...
